Asparagus, Pecans & Apples for Sale Now

Asparagus started growing earlier this year due to high spring temperatures, and we have some for sale now.    I break each spear where it snaps off easily, so almost the entire spear is tender and usable.  We'll have asparagus for sale for the next 7 weeks or so, until late May.  Phone 620-597-2450 a day or two ahead to order it.  Asparagus is just $2.96 per pound + tax, harvested.

We grow 'Jersey Knight' asparagus, an all-male variety that produces many thicker spears that are tender and delicious.
We still have many harvested, cracked pecans for saleselections from my husband Bill's pecan breeding program.  All these pecans have large nuts, thin shells and great taste, and I give taste samples.  If you'll want to buy pecans before mid-Nov. 2026, come in the next few months, as we'll likely sell out by late May or early June 2026.  Pecans keep well for at least 6 years in the freezer.

We sell cracked pecans in 4-pound bags, which are over 75% pecan kernels and under 25% shell fragments.  Each bag has the equivalent of 6 pounds of in-shell pecans, and when you pick out the kernels, you get 3 pounds or more of nutmeats.  Each bag costs $19.70 + sales tax.

One of my favorite spring dinners is penne pasta with a blend of Italian cheeses, basil, parsley, steamed fresh asparagus & our toasted pecans.
We still have over 5000 pounds of harvested apples, mainly 'Enterprise' and 'Gold Rush', mostly stored in our larger cooler in our pecan building.  Whenever it's too cold to work outside or raining, I'll sort apples out of these bins all spring, into 20-pound trays for sale.  We'll have harvested 'Enterprise' apples for sale until about mid-June 2026, and 'Gold Rush' apples for sale until about mid-July 2026.

Harvested apples sell for $1.48 per pound + sales tax for #1 fruit with no damage.  I sort and pack apples into bags in boxes that I weigh to 20 pounds, so if you get a 20-pound box of #1 apples you save $1.00.  We also have some nice #2 fruit, with some surface scarring but no internal damage, that sells for just $1.18 per pound + sales tax.

We're still open by appointment until June 14.  That means to phone 620-597-2450 a day ahead, and leave a message on our answering machine with your name, day and time you'll come, and what you want to buy.  You can make an appointment to arrive here between 10 a.m. and 11:45 a.m., or between 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday to Saturday.

Bill has made all the large pruning cuts in our main apple orchard, and I'm now thinning out and heading back the fruiting branches.  Apple trees are in bloom now, and so far, it looks like we'll have a good apple crop again this year.
We're very busy now pruning fruit trees whenever the weather is conducive, and can't always see or hear vehicles come in if you just drop by.  So if you know you'll be coming this way, please call  620-597-2450 a day ahead, and state the day and approximate time you'll come, so we can look for you.  If you do drop by, ring the bell on the sales building porch very loudly.

As always, we take cash or checks for payment, but NO credit cards or debit cards, and no "apps".  We don't use a smart phone, and have no phone line to the sales building.  So please bring your checkbook or enough cash to cover the amount of fruit and/or pecans you want to buy.  Thanks.
